Starts: 09.05.2002
Ends:   09.07.2002

Introducing the

International Coup D’ Etat Skateboarding Exposition

Tum Yeto has teamed up with DNA Distribution and the Children’s Museum of San Diego to put together an interactive open to the public exposition of skateboarding and skateboard products. This grass roots three-day event will host new product displays from title sponsor companies such as Toy Machine, Alien Workshop, Foundation, Habitat, Pig Wheels, Seek, Hollywood, Ruckus Trucks as well as new product from co-sponsors/exhibitors such as Giant Distribution, NHS, Dwindle, Imperial and DC Shoes to name a few. There will also be scheduled video showings, scheduled pro team autograph signings, how to skateboard video screenings, mini ramp sessions by top pros and a pro invitational event known as the “San Dieguito Hand Rail Challenge”. This is a best trick contest on a replica of the infamous San Dieguito H.S. hand rail spot but using the actual hand rail that the school cut out in order to stop skateboarding. The first day will be an industry only day for shops, distributors and vendors and the two other days open to the general public. It will be an event that kids can come see new products from their favorite companies, meet their favorite pros, see the newest videos and see an exclusive invitational pro event. The entire event will benefit the non-profit San Diego Children’s Museum.

When and where? September 5th, 6th and 7th 2002 at the San Diego Children’s Museum in downtown San Diego. Not in conjunction with ASR at the convention center and San Diego Street Scene but consecutively the exposition will draw thousands of skateboarders and industry types.

Who will be there? Skateboard participants and enthusiasts from all over southern California ranging from 10-30 years old and their parents. Industry bigwigs, shop owners and international distributors from all over the world.

About Tum Yeto:
Started in 1989 as Foundation Skateboards started by Tod Swank and incorporated in 1994 as Tum Yeto, Inc. Tum Yeto in conjunction with top pro riders, went on to help create some of the most popular brands in skateboarding such as Toy Machine, Pig, Zero, Foundation and up and comers Hollywood and Ruckus Trucks. Exclusive marketing, manufacturing and distribution of their own brands to the greater United States and selling in over 45 countries worldwide. Tum Yeto has been endorsing grass roots public and industry expositions for the last 3 years.

About DNA:
Dayton Ohio based DNA Distribution is one of the world's leading suppliers of skateboards and accessories. Originally founded in 1990 by Chris Carter and Mike Hill, Alien Workshop was the initial brand created with the idea that a skateboard company could be more than just a skateboard manufacturer. The Workshop pushed all boundries of skateboard design and production to create its original identity. Since its inception, the Sovereign Sect has grown to include 3 other brands: Reflex Bearings, Habitat Skateboards and, most recently, Seek Skateboards. Each brand offers a full line of skateboard equipment and accessories. Along with their own brands, DNA also distributes all the leading brands of trucks, safety equipment and grip tape. DNA's brands are proud to feature the world's best skateboarders. Always ready to push the limits and take new approaches, DNA Distribution has decided to join the International Coup d'Etat Exposition to better meet the needs of their dealers and distributors in an environment that is more appropriate than a traditional tradeshow.

Historical background - Slalom skateboard racing -- at its peak in the late 70's -- has re-emerged as a world class event in the last few years. In the heyday, La Costa California was a mecca for slalom racing and the locale for many legendary races. 70's racing legends Tom Ryan, Henry Hester, Bob Skoldberg and Bob Piercy -- the original "La Costa Boys" -- came to these hills regularly to fine-tune their skills. After a hiatus of more than 20 years, FCR and Henry Hester hosted the 2001 La Costa Open. Building on the success of that 2001 event, FCR racing returns again -- with lots of new faces as well as the seasoned masters! Bob Turner (1940-2002) - Recognized today as one of the great innovators in the skateboard industry -- Turner introduced cap construction and camber to slalom racing decks in 1974 -- demonstrating a vision that was far ahead of its time. The Turner SummerSki set new standards for racing performance and stylized design, and boards constructed more than 25 years ago are classics, proudly maintained by collectors and loyal fans and still actively used in slalom racing competitions today. The Turner design legacy lives on in part through Turner Downhill - formed by Howard Gordon in 2001 -- who collaborated with Bob Turner to reintroduce his revolutionary designs to a popular demand. Saturday's race is dedicated to Bob Turner who passed away in 2002. For the full story on the Turner legacy, Turner Downhill and Team Turner - log onto www.turnerdownhill.com Vision Skateboards - a division of Vision Sports - has seen enormous success over its twenty-five years in the business. Tum Yeto Sick of getting skateboarding tickets?
Starts: 05.29.2002
Ends:   05.29.2002

"Just got a call from the city council". Tim Clark is the man that's legalizing skateboarding by making the city of San Diego recognize skateboarding as a viable means of transportation. So far he has caught the attention of Council Member Byron Wear and will be speaking at the land housing and useage committee meeting at 2 PM on Wed. May 29th at the City Building on 3rd street downtown to give an opinion on how the legalization of skateboarding can benefit the community. We are trying to rally positive people that would be interested in seeing the law get changed. That is where you, the skateboarders of San Diego come in. Skaters with past tickets. You know who you are! The TV stations will be covering this thing closely. If you live in San Diego and are sick of getting harrassed for skating down the street on your way to work or school, this is the meeting you have to be at.

Check out Tim's site. He was just on the San Diego's local news channels the other day. See clips of the broadcast and motivate yourself to be at this meeting. He is all about it! hirollin.com

If you do not live in San Diego, please follow our example. Make changes in your community. Together skateboarders will rule the world!

Tum Yeto The Art of Skateboarding.
Starts: 04.06.2002
Ends:   04.07.2002

"The Art of Skateboarding" in the San Diego Children’s Museum during the month of April 2002. With the help of GETM (global education through music), Tum Yeto Skateboarding Company and the San Diego Children’s Museum we look forward to honoring this amazing activity by displaying the history of skateboarding and its evolution. You will be able to walk through its evolution on the museums skywalk, starting with the history of the wheel. Surfing will then lead into how the two put together created skateboarding. Old boards from the beginning of skateboarding till now will be hung from the ceiling and memorabilia will trace its history and really tell its tail.

This exhibit will feature skateboards, pictures, art works, films and nearly everything to do with skateboarding. There will be interactive programs for all ages to enjoy learning about this amazing activity. Clay stations will be set up for people to make art and design skate parks. A board making station will be set up to show how boards are made. Finger boarding courses will allow anyone to emulate skateboarding on the model environment. Film showings and viewing areas will be integrated in the exhibit as well.

To kick off the event we are planning a huge skating extravaganza on April 6th and 7th. This will include skateboarding courses where professional skateboarders will be putting on exhibitions, demonstrations and learning courses for all. This event is going to be held in the parking lot across the street as well as in the street that will be blocked off during the weekend. A street fair environment will provide food, beverage and entertainment of all kinds. A downtown skate race will kick off the event with its finish at the museum. Booths will be rented out for companies to advertise and give away products.

el ztaffo will be there on Saturday April 6th!
