Starts: 10.26.2005 Ends: 10.30.2005 Come check out the Damn AM contest later this month. Matt Allen, Tommy Gurrola, Slash, and Shuriken Shannon will be entering. Here's some fun and vital info from the sweet folks at Damn Am. What is it? It's an amateur street skateboarding contest for factory sponsored ams only. You can also qualify for Tampa Am. Your girlfriend, sister, and/or mom can also get soaked in a dunk tank while we all watch and pitch tents. How did vert get to be less popular than cancer? They wear shorts? Who knows, but Volcom tore down the vert bowl, so there is no vert contest this year unless you're feeling generous and want to have one built for us. We're broke like you. When is it? Thursday, October 26, 2005 to Sunday, October 30, 2005 How do I register? Your team manager from a legit skateboard company must register you by sending an email. You cannot register yourself directly. Is it free to spectate? Yes Can my company sponsor it? Yes, as long as your company doesn't suck. Where is it? It's at the Volcom Warehouse, 1740 Monrovia Ave, Costa Mesa, CA 92627 Directions: 405 - South / 55 south / Right 17th / Right Monrovia / Volcom is located a 1/4 mile down on the right side. What's going on each day? All times are approximate. Bring your hot mom and 18+ sister for the Adio Dunk Tank mayhem going on all weekend long. Starts: 09.30.2005 Ends: 09.30.2005 SKATEBOARDER ALERT: HERITAGE SKATE AREA COMING SOON! Local skateboarders will soon be able to ride the rails at a new 1,500-square-foot skateboarding area being added to Chula Vista's Heritage Park. Designed for novice skaters, the new area will be a free, unsupervised facility featuring three popular skateboarding obstacles. Construction on the skate area started this month and it is expected to open in late summer/early fall. Heritage Park is located at 1381 East Palomar St. in the Otay Ranch neighborhood. "When Heritage Park opened, it quickly became apparent that the youth in the neighborhood were seeking a place to skateboard," said Recreation Director Buck Martin. "Soon after that we gave the kids an opportunity to vote for their three favorite obstacles. Then we worked on the overall design and even consulted retired professional skateboarder Katen Russell to ensure that it was top-notch." Features of the skate area will include a multi-level grind block, a set of stairs and a freestanding grind rail---the top vote getters from neighborhood skaters. It will replace a lawn area in the eastern portion of Heritage Park near the basketball courts. On September 30, 2005, Heritage Park will host a grand opening to celebrate the combined efforts of the City and local skateboarders. The event will include demonstrations by professional skateboarders and vendors from the skateboarding industry.
